On the first day of summer I had my annual reunion with my friend Sherry who spends summers in her home in New Jersey and winters in Arizona. Sherry and I go back to grade school so there is always a lot to catch up on especially after my reunion last week with some of our high school friends. Generally Sherry and I meet at a restaurant in Staten Island and then either go to a park or the mall.
It's all in our genes ... Before retiring Sherry did research at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. Her son has a PhD and works at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Her husband was in finance but their daughter went to LA to be a writer. Her life had a happy ending as met a great guy and lives happily ever after out there. In my family, Tracy inherited my teaching gene, and Nikki her father's sales gene. My other daughter Zsia inherited my father's mathematics gene and is a partner in a CPA firm. My dad left finance to be a men's fashion designer, while Zsia has found amazing new things to do to help others - such as the national women's group she runs for woman in business.
On this day we went to the Staten Island Mall to find Sherry a floral bag. Last month I found my Altipano tapestry bag on Ebay - my favorite place to shop for bargains - new for $22 - so I was just along to play. Sherry bought the bag she's holding in her right hand in the pic below and another not pictured in. We also looked for our friend Yolanda who ran the beauty salon in JC Penny for years, and shared metaphysical adventures with me back in the day. It turns out Yolanda retired last month and moved upstate. As is typical for me and my friends, there were lots of laughs and memories made even at our age, 74.
For today ... Which hat is the real me?
The answer is ... none of the above. I never wear hats - don't own one.
In the winter I wear a hood
Goodbye Sher ... Until next time
