In 1997, crop circles continued to be a phenomenon of interest, with both natural and hoax explanations debated. A notable formation was the "Tree of Life" (Kabbalah) in a canola field and a large "snowflake" design near Silbury Hill and Milk Hill. Some researchers, like W.C. Levengood, proposed that certain formations involved high heat, possibly from plasma vortices, rather than human construction. Others pointed to the continued appearance of complex designs as evidence of human artistry or hoaxes.
