January 20-22, 2025 Gulf Coast Blizzard Wikipedia
The January 20-22, 2025 Gulf Coast blizzard was an exceptionally rare and historic winter storm and blizzard that impacted the Gulf Coast of the United States. It brought snowfall to regions of the Gulf Coast that rarely receive wintry precipitation.
This historic event was the first recorded blizzard to ever impact the Gulf Coast region and the most significant winter storm in the region since 1895. The storm originated from an area of low pressure that developed in the western Gulf of Mexico along an Arctic cold front on January 20. It moved eastward and dropped historic amounts of winter precipitation along the coastlines before it moved offshore on January 22. The storm was unofficially named Winter Storm Enzo by The Weather Channel.
Due to the unprecedented threat of heavy snowfall in cities such as New Orleans, Louisiana, Houston, Texas, and Pensacola, Florida, states of emergencies were declared in almost every state along the Gulf Coast. During the height of the storm on January 21, a blizzard warning was issued for the first time on record for the coastline of Louisiana, the furthest south such a warning had been issued. Thousands of flights were postponed or outright cancelled across the Gulf Coast due to the storm. Snow accumulations ranged from 6-12 inches (15-30 cm) across the coast, and the states of Louisiana and Florida recorded their largest single-day snowfall statewide on record, breaking records that had been in place for almost a century.
At least 77,000 people lost power due to the storm, most of the outages contained within the states of Louisiana and Florida. At least 10 people have been killed as a result of the storm, and financial losses are currently estimated to be at least US$500 million.
My grandson Matthew is a Senior at Tulane where they had quite the storm due to climate change. Matt and his friends created the pic above. As he lives in Connecticut - Matt grew up with snowy winters so it's nothing new to him - just unexpected - and for kids lots of fun.
We are in Aquarius. Expect the unexpected. Across the south adults and children are embracing what they feel is a once in a century storm. On the down side - people face power outages, delays, and more.

At least nine people are believed to have died as a result of the dangerous cold gripping much of the country, as a once-in-a-generation winter storm wreaks havoc on the Gulf Coast a region wholly unaccustomed to winter weather. While the cold has proved deadly, footage from across the Gulf Coast shows snow blanketing implausible places, causing surreal wintry scenes: in New Orleans' French Quarter, where street performers sang for passersby; on the grass at the Florida border; and on the white sand beaches of Orange Beach, Alabama.
