Denmark ending letter deliveries at the end of the year - it's a sign of the digital times BBC - August 23, 2025
In the digital age, communication has undeniably shifted towards speed and brevity. People increasingly prefer instant messaging and the use of emojis to convey meaning, while traditional forms of communication, like email, are becoming less common except in professional contexts.
Texting has largely replaced phone conversations which can lead to 'misunderstandings' - a reflection of today's society. One can easily 'miss the message' - physically and metaphorically.
The phenomenon of 'ghosting' is not about 'spirits' - but could take on a harmful spiritual connotation where individuals choose to end communication without explanation. I find this specifically painful for those in romantic relationships - who are left to wonder why the other person has walked away.
Meanwhile - the decline of mail delivery services - as seen with the recent changes in Denmark - could potentially spread to other nations and probably will.
Generally I receive about one piece of mail a day - typically from local politicians seeking my vote so no great loss there for me. I also noticed that my mailman delivers the ail in less time than days gone by. This will undoubtedly continue until Christmas, and then taper off again. How often do I mail a letter? Only business forms and tend to send them at the post office by priority mail.
On the political landscape - formerly President Trump has expressed intentions to eliminate mail-in ballots. The new postmaster general downplays privatization concerns amid Trump's plans
Additionally, postal services in France and Germany have begun restricting package deliveries to the U.S. due to Trump's tariffs, a trend that could influence other countries as well.
At the end of the day we communicate in ways that feel comfortable - and for some people lack the ability to communicate at all. It's for humanity to adjust as everything in reality is speeding up as focus shifts from one second to another.
