Lately there are increasing articles about out of control cars crashing into buildings - hitting the people inside and/or pedestrians. This is not about drivers under the influence.

What's happened is the driver has had what I call a 'brain glitch' as the brain is a computer. This results in a momentary black out - the driver hitting the accelerator instead of the brake.

While this mistake can happen to drivers of any age, it occurs more frequently among seniors due to an accumulation of normal age-related changes or underlying medical conditions that affect cognitive, neurological, and physical function. It also happens when panic causes a driver to press harder on the wrong pedal.
