Nonnas is a 2025 American biographical comedy-drama film. The film is based on Joe Scaravella's life, the owner of Staten Island restaurant Enoteca Maria, who risks everything to honor his recently deceased, beloved mother by opening an Italian restaurant with actual grandmothers (Nonnas) as chefs. Lots of location scenes in Staten Island as well as here in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn - with one shot featuring the Verrazano Bridge and the upper floors of my building that included my apartment (around 9 minutes in). I remember when they came here to shoot remote locations.
It's been a long time since they shot a movie or TV series from my apartment because the trees in the park grew too tall and block the view of the bridge. It's always been about the bridge.
Vince Vaughn is a good actor with a pinch of Italian in his ancestry - but was wrong for the lead. They needed someone with a John Travolta Brooklyn accent and swag to help the viewers identify with the Italian culture back in the day moving forward to present day. It wasn't a mobbed up movie - but a slice of Italian-American culture then and now.
Being a Nonna myself, my grandson Michael highly recommend that I watch it. Thanks Michael.
