Mass Shooting in NYC

July 2025 New York City Shooting

Monday July 28, 2025 was definitely one for the books. The temperatures soared to 98° - the real-feel over 100° - as most people sought shelter in air conditioned environments.

7 something PM ...

Day was turning to night as I closed my tech - charged my phone - and got into bed to watch the latest chaos on the NBC 6:30 news - which I record. Fast forward Trump, Gaza, climate, more ... with a pause at this story Gunman kills 3 outside Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno. Another mass shooting incident by another person with mental illness.

My recording showed NBC news had interrupted normal programming with this still unfolding NYC story. It was time to watch live. Five people, including a New York City police officer, died in a shooting in Manhattan. Suspected gunman Shane Devon Tamura died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound

As someone who has many clients in the city - I watched intently, but knew that it was way too early to get the names of the victims. I noticed NYPD, the FBI, State Troopers, Detectives, and other law enforcement - as well as bystanders taking videos and pics with their phones. The videos will help fill in the blanks about the movements of the shooter before and after he entered the building. It takes a lot to shock New Yorkers, but we are always braced for what will eventually hit home.

I wondered why the shooter - walking down Park Avenue in daylight - was not stopped by somebody. Did they think it was part of a movie or TV shoot? In that case the area would've been roped off. Maybe it was the heat and people just focusing to get where they had to go - therefore ignoring the perp as he walked down the street carrying a rifle - then entering the building on Park Avenue in the 50s.

Later I will find out the names of the victims to see if I recognize anyone.

When someone from NYPD or the NYFD is shot or killed - that energy reverberates throughout the city. Monday night - off-duty police officer Didarul Islam - a 36-year-old immigrant from Bangladesh with two young sons and another baby on the way - was slain.

The shooter was 27-year-old Shane Devon Tamura who carried out the attack after driving to NYC from Las Vegas, officials said. He was born in Hawaii but later moved to Las Vegas. A suicide note was found in Tamura's pocket expressing grievances with the NFL saying he suffered from CTE, a disease linked to head trauma. Tamura was a competitive football player in his youth, sources said. He had no significant criminal background. He had a documented mental health history. Law enforcement is still investigating motives for the attack.

By now we all know these stories will continue until the end - committed by perpetrators who should have been committed and removed from society before hurting themselves and others. It's not that easy ...

Bear in mind that all mental illness cannot be cured to the point of people being able to function in our radical society where chaos rules sanity in end times. These are the fractured souls - programmed for a lifetime of mental illness, substance abuse, chaos, forever searching for answers.

Mass shooters are almost always male but are no longer predominantly college age - when mental illness kicks in. It's about people with histories of mental illness who have personal reasons for the shootings or have a psychotic episode when they attack others. Mental illness has always been part of the human equation and genetic for the most part.

In today's world - people who commit mass murders have set up a template for others who are disturbed or substance abusers with nothing to live for - committing suicide after harming others.
