Automatic writing is the process, or product, of writing material that does not come from the conscious thoughts of the writer. The writer's hand forms the message, and the person is unaware of what will be written. It is sometimes done in a trance state. Other times the writer is aware (not in a trance) of their surroundings, but the actions of their writing hand.
Ideomotor Effect: Skeptics point out that automatic writing claimed to be of supernatural origins is a parlor game that has little more effect than to spark creativity in the minds of the participants. They claim, as with other paranormal phenomena, that the subconscious of those performing the writing is the only thing influencing their actions and that there is no solid evidence that any messages are coming from anywhere other than the mind of the person writing.
Therapy: Automatic writing is used as a tool in Freudian psychology and in related "self knowledge" studies, where it is seen as a means of gaining insight into the mind of the automatic writer through their subconscious word choices.
Emotions: Never do automatic writing if you have mental illness.
Channeling: Automatic writing is sometimes considered as a form of channeling.
Brain: Automatic writing involves the right side of the brain or creative side. Left brain is the logical side.
Doodling: Is a form of automatic writing as it is generally not consciously focused writing. Many people doodle spirals which are associated with Sacred Geometry and creation.
Long and short of it: People write short poems or long novels depending on what information is coming through.
Emotions: If you like drama - and consider your life to be in emotional turmoil - it's not advisable to try automatic writing.
Reasons to channel: Get information about personal life, confirm something from some who exists on the other side or has deceased.
Location: Find a place that is free of distraction. Chose your medium to write or type with. If you are tired this could actually work better for you because your mind is more relaxed.
Begin: Relax your body especially your shoulders. Take a deep breath. Let go.
Control: The first time you do this, you may feel that you need to control what is being written. Forget that.
What you see: Words, sentences or whole paragraphs may appear. Often, the writing is illegible - the text appearing jumbled - without proper grammar or punctuation - mostly run-on sentences. That can be adjusted later.
Languages: Messages can be written in a language - or hand writing style - not recognized by the writer and signed by someone unknown.
Questions: If you want to type a question and see what follows ... Start that way.
Validity: The best way to know if the information received is valid is to simply check the validity of what is written afterwards. This will further let you know if it's coming from you or another source.
Timing: The amount of time spent on automatic writing can vary with the person and the session. Just don't spend a lot of time with automatic writing to the point of becoming addicted.
Archetypes: A picture, symbol, or archetype may be written. Take a pic of it and use goggle to search for its meaning.
Dreams: You may see this as a game, therapy, connection to the other side, or something that needs to be processed. If you receive a message, you may want to repeat it before you go to sleep to see if your dreams will enhance the message further. Don't forget to write down what you dream as soon as you wake up.
When to Stop: I believe that anything you do in the world of psychic development should feel positive and if they do not then STOP ! For everyone else ... Stop when you feel tired.
Practice: Not everyone is good at automatic writing or channeling. You can try it a few times and if you get bored, then just stop.
