26 Year Olds, Seniors, Emotions, Global Adoption
Articles - Week of February 18-24, 2007
The game board of reality is played on many levels for the same reason anyone plays a game, for the experience and emotions connected to it. Planet Earth has swept across the game board of planet Earth, leaving us to reflect, become aware of what is next, heal, balance, and wait to move on.
Dear Ellie, I wandered across your site while searching for pocket watches and found it quite interesting. I have to comment on the "Global Game Board" regarding adopted children with little or no knowledge of their backgrounds. As an adoptee (as are my siblings) and having had no knowledge of my past (nor did my parents), I searched for and found my birth family at age 45 for medical reasons. The experience was fascinating to say the least. First there was much serendipity in play or I would never have made a connection with my half-sister, who I now keep in touch with regularly. As a very young child I had precognitive dreams about my roots which proved true.
There are numerous other "coincidences" as well - both for myself and my two siblings such as interests, skills, and mannerisms - all of which are apparently genetically encoded. I say this because I'm quite different from my parents (German Catholic Depression Era) but somewhere close to identical to my birthmother (who I've never met). I was taught to think graciously of the woman who gave birth to me and am extremely grateful for my parents. We are a very close and loving family and I hope to be able to one day proudly introduce my family to my half-sister!
What I wish to express is that we are all so uniquely different yet so intricately connected that I think everyone we cross paths with plays a part in our lives. Some of these meetings last a moment and some a lifetime but none less important than the other. I know that these young mothers are simply falling in love with a child that was truly meant to be theirs. It's the same story my mother has told me as far back as I am able to recall. I know there is much mystery and many questions regarding adoption and I hope I was able to offer a different view than most.
I shall be following your fascinating site frequently.
